Selank (TP-7) is a regulatory heptapeptide analog of the endogenous tetrapeptide tuftsin (a fragment of the heavy chain of human Immunoglobulin G). The addition of three amino acids (Pro-Gly-Pro) to its C-terminus prevents rapid enzymatic degradation, allowing for sustained activity in experimental models. 

In vitro and in vivo laboratory research demonstrates that Selank alters the expression of genes involved in neurotransmission and the immune response. It acts as an indirect positive allosteric modulator of GABA-A receptors, providing a mechanism for stress-response attenuation without the typical affinity profiles or downstream side effects associated with classical benzodiazepine receptor agonists.
